Barcelona chiefs arrive in Brazil to complete signing of highly-rated midfielder Arthur from Gremio

BARCELONA chiefs are in Brazil as they look to finalise a deal for highly-rated midfielder Arthur, according to reports in Spain.

The Gremio ace, who was sensational en route to Copa Libertadores last season, has been a long-term Nou Camp target.

The Catalans were forced to issue an apology during the summer after being accused of “tapping up” when Arthur was pictured in a Barcelona shirt, and it looked like any move could be put in jeopardy.

However, Marca report the Nou Camp giants have sent an entourage to Brazil in a bid to finalise a transfer.

Gremio president Romildo Bolzan has made it clear no deal would be done unless the player’s £44million transfer clause is met.

Should they come to an agreement, Arthur, 21, would be likely to join at the end of the season or potentially in the summer of 2019.

Inter want to take Erik Lamela off Tottenham’s hands as director of football looks to re-unite with former Roma star

INTER MILAN are interested in taking Erik Lamela off Tottenham’s hands, as the Nerazzuri’s director of football fancies a reunion with the player he brought to Roma.

According to Gianluca di Marzio, the 25-year-old has emerged as a target for the Serie A giants.

That is despite the fact that Lamela was out of action for over a YEAR with a persistent hip injury on both joints, that required double surgery and months of rehab.

According to Di Marzio Inter are “looking for reinforcements” and are already at work over summer transfers.

He claims the club, currently fourth in the race for the Scudetto, are using Walter Sabatini’s connection to try and bring the Argentina international back to Italy.

Tottenham, though, are not thought to be entertaining any sales this summer.

Inter are looking for a big signing this summer, according to the respected journalist, and Lamela played at the Stadio Olimpico between 2011 and 2013 after a move from River Plate.

But they could find it hard in the transfer market unless they have seriously big money to invest and can fend off Europe’s biggest names.

Lamela has yet to bag a goal since his comeback from injury, but got 90 minutes under his belt for the first time this term in the 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon.

In fact, he last scored for Spurs against Gillingham in September 2016 in a 5-0 Carabao Cup victory.

Manchester United could have to fend off another Real Madrid swoop for David De Gea after Kepa turns down Los Blancos move

MANCHESTER UNITED could have another problem on their hands this summer over David De Gea as reports emerged a top Real Madrid target Kepa wants to stay at Athletic Bilbao.

The young Spanish stopper has been a target for Los Blancos, with the club reportedly ready to fight for his signature.

But manager Zinedine Zidane has stubbornly refused to make any more signings this window, after a massive slump in form from the European champions.

And Kepa Arrizabalaga, 23, has decided to remain at the San Memes for at least the rest of the season as he seeks to seal a place in the Spain squad for the World Cup.

According to Marca, he has “grown tired of delays” from the Spanish capital and wants to remain loyal to the Basque club.

The deal is set to be announced this week after 16 months of talks and he will sign until 2023 or 2024 and he will become their third-highest paid player.

Kepa has also had a foot injury that has discouraged Real from going in hard on making the signing happen.

Zidane’s reign as Real boss has been questioned, but he was helped by a 7-1 win against Deportivo yesterday.

Manchester United ready to end Antoine Griezmann and Gareth Bale interest if they land £35million Alexis Sanchez

MANCHESTER UNITED will scrap mega-money moves for Gareth Bale and Antoine Griezmann if they land Alexis Sanchez, according to reports.

The Chilean international looks certain to leave the Emirates this month with Manchester United and City battling for his signature.

Manchester United will reportedly end their interest in Antoine GriezmannEPA

Now the Daily Mail are claiming Sanchez’s move could see United end their interest in bringing in another attacker in the summer.

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has been linked with a move back to the Premier League after another injury-plagued season for the Welshman.

And United have been long-time admirers of Griezmann and even failed with a bid last summer after the Frenchman had a change of heart.

The Gunners are demanding a £35million fee for Sanchez, 29, and his agent Fernando Felicevich is also demanding a £5m payment.

Sanchez can pocket an extra £60,000-a-week if he snubs a reunion with Pep Guardiola to move to Old Trafford.

Desperate United boss Jose Mourinho will “fight” to land the Arsenal contract rebel this month.

SAYING ‘BUY-BUY’ Mourinho warns Red Devils stars nobody safe during January transfer window

He plans to hijack the striker’s move to City by offering Sanchez a whopping £350,000-a-week wages and a £25million signing-on fee.

Mourinho will also pay Arsenal £30m and Sanchez’s agent £5m — fees Guardiola refuses to cough up.

Real Madrid ‘were willing to meet Lionel Messi’s £222million buy-out clause in 2013’ — and set up meeting on private jet

REAL MADRID had been willing to pay Lionel Messi’s £222million buy-out clause in 2013, according to reports in Spain.

The Argentine has spent his entire career with Barcelona and is considered the club’s greatest player of all-time.

However, El Mundo report Real Madrid have attempted to sign Messi on three occasions — with a proposal from four-and-a-half years ago being the closest they came to talks.

Back in 2013, Barcelona’s era of dominance looked to be coming to an end after the Catalans were taken apart 7-0 by Bayern Munich on aggregate in the Champions League semi-finals.

And Los Blancos president Florentino Perez attempted to lure Messi across the famous Clasico divide.

The Argentine’s former lawyer Inigo Suarez informed his father Jorge that Real Madrid were willing to meet his £222m buy-out clause.

And would offer a seven-year contract worth £400,000-a-week NET — as well as around £890,000 for his father.

They had organised a meeting between Messi, his lawyer, Real president Perez, then director Miguel Pardeza and a club lawyer.

This is one of the three attempts by Los Blancos to sign the Barca No 10, with the latest coming last summer.

Arsene Wenger reveals Arsenal aren’t close to any more transfers following their FA Cup exit

Arsene Wenger reveals Arsenal aren’t close to any more transfers following their FA Cup exit

ARSENE WENGER says Arsenal aren’t close to any transfers because they “signed a Greek boy”.

The Gunners boss added that he “looks good in training” after the 4-2 FA Cup shock at Nottingham Forest.

Wenger was referring to 20-year-old Konstantinos Mavropanos, who joined on from PAS Giannina a few days ago.

He said: “No. I can’t give you any news on any transfer because we are not close to signing anyone.

“We signed a Greek boy, who looks quite good in training. But apart from that we are not on anything.”

The Gunners boss also refused to discuss Nottingham Forest’s “double-kick” penalty after his side were dumped out of the FA Cup.

The defending champs fell to a 4-2 defeat at the City Ground on a miserable day for the Gunners, heightened by a spot-kick scored that should not have stood.

Everton loanee Kieran Dowell slipped as he ran up, with the ball hitting hit right foot after being kicked with his left.

CHAMPS CRASH OUT Gunners misfire as Forest win FA Cup clash

It looped the opposite way to where he was aiming, beating David Ospina in the Arsenal goal to make it 4-2 and game over.

Wenger was watching the game from stands as he serves a three-match ban after admitting “abusive behaviour” towards referee Mike Dean after being furious at conceding an 89th-minute penalty in the Premier League draw with West Brom.

And in their last Premier League match against Chelsea, a 2-2 draw, the Frenchman was seething at Eden Hazard winning a penalty following a challenge from Hector Bellerin.

But after today’s demoralising defeat, Wenger refused to talk about Forest’s penalty.

Speaking after the game he said: “I don’t want to talk about that anymore, I’m a bit tired of that.

“We have to respond quickly on Wednesday we have a big game, focus on that one, semi-final for the league cup, we have to respond quickly.

“You never put disappointment behind you, the only thing that can help is to focus on the next game.

“We have won the FA Cup three times in four years, it’s a competition we love.”

Eric Lichaj had put Forest into an early lead before Per Mertesacker levelled the game just three minutes later.

But Lichaj, once of Aston Villa, volleyed in a sublime 25-yarder for 2-1 a minute before half-time.

Ben Brereton scored from the penalty spot in the second half after a clumsy challenge from Calum Chambers for 3-1, but Danny Welbeck bundled home for the Gunners to bring them to within a goal.

But five minutes from time ex-Arsenal defender Armand Traore was fouled in the box by Mathieu Debuchy, and Dowell stepped up to fire home, controversially.

Wenger was, however, honest in his assessment of how the game went.

He added: “I believe that overall we played against a Nottingham team who were sharp and dominated us from the front.

“We were a bit unlucky, but overall they were sharper and more dominant in the challenges, we lost too many challenges.”
