PSG's Neymar not given tax breaks to aid Barcelona move - French minister
Argentina legend Diego Maradona backed up Neymar's decision to join PSG. Zinedine Zidane comments on how transfer fees have risen since his playing days, and jokes that clubs could be paying up to €400m for Neymar in the coming years. The French government did not give Neymar tax breaks to encourage him to leave Barcelona and sign for Paris Saint-Germain last summer, France's public accounts minister has told BFMTV. In a book titled "PSG: Revelations of a Revolution" published earlier this week, the writers claimed Neymar, who moved to PSG in a €222 million world-record transfer, had been given financial incentives to do so. The book alleged PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi had told politicians "France must make a gesture,"...

Sam Kerr left Sky Blue FC to join NWSL rivals Chicago Red Stars in January. Australia's Sam Kerr insists she wasn't too downcast by her recent World XI snub, saying her main focus is to make sure the Matildas become an international powerhouse. Kerr was a surprise omission when the 2017 FIFPro World XI squad was named earlier this month. Only two Australians made the initial 55-player shortlist -- Kerr and defender Alanna Kennedy. But neither made the final cut, with Kerr's omission raising eyebrows all over the world. The team was voted on by more than 4,100 female players...

Inside Gareth Bale’s stunning back garden golf course based on legendary holes

GARETH BALE knows exactly what Rory McIlroy will be going through at The Masters next month – as he has one of the holes in his garden.

The Real Madrid ace’s stunning Welsh estate has a mini golf course, which he has been carefully sculpting since last year.

His chosen three holes were the the 12th at Augusta, Royal Troon’s Postage Stamp and the tricky par-three 17th at Sawgrass.

Bale, 28, said: “As I moved here I had a lovely bit of land here and I had something I really wanted to do with it and decided that I would love to make a dream come true and build a mini golf course in my house.

“From a plain piece of land to build what we now it was a lot of hard work and a lot of craftsmanship.

“It’s a lot better than I ever thought it could be and I’m just so happy I’ve got it here now and so happy that I chose Southwest Greens.”

In 2015, keen golfer Bale helped Wales beat England, Ireland and Scotland in the Celebrity Cup at Celtic Manor.

He added: “I try to play as much golf as possible. In fact, I’m obsessed with it.

England play Holland at Wembley a week on Friday and face Italy, also at home, on Tuesday, March 27.

Gunners’ manager Arsene Wenger fully expects his man to win a recall.

Wenger said: “The vibes I get are positive. I believe he has a good chance to be in there, but we have to leave that to Gareth Southgate. I have enough to do with my job.”

Among the uncapped players looking to land call-ups are Callum Wilson, Glenn Murray and Ashley Barnes.

Everton join Juventus in race for Arsenal star Jack Wilshere… and will top new Gunners deal offered

EVERTON are ready to go head-to-head with Juventus for Jack Wilshere, according to reports.

The 26-year-old and his representatives have hit a brick wall in talks with Arsenal about extending his stay at the Emirates.

Wilshere, who has forced his way back into the Arsenal side in recent months is a free agent in the summer.

However, the Gunners want the England international to take a pay-cut on his £110,000-a-week contract to stay on.

The midfielder is reluctant to leave North London and his admission that no progress is being made in negotiations has alerted the Toffees, claim the Mirror.

Everton could offer higher wages than Arsenal who want Wilshere to agree to a heavily incentivised deal due to his injury record in recent years.

The Merseysider’s are keen to revamp their midfield and Sam Allardyce has earmarked Wilshere as the man to aid their push for Europe next season.

Italian champions Juve are closely monitoring his situation while they also keep tabs on Liverpool’s contract rebel Emre Can.

The Turin club will need to add to their midfield option if they decide to sell Blaise Matuidi who is being tracked by Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Arsenal face another headache with Aaron Ramsey set the enter the final year of his contract this summer.

They want to keep the Welshman, but may be tempted to cash in if he does not sign a new deal instead of running the risk of losing him for nothing at the end of next season.

Mesut Ozil’s whopping £350,000-a-week deal has raised eyebrows in the dressing room with other top players set to use the German’s bumper pay-hike as a reference point when negotiating fresh terms.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos left pitch during play against Eibar ‘to take a s**t’, claims manager Zinedine Zidane

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos left pitch during play against Eibar ‘to take a s**t’, claims manager Zinedine Zidane

NOBODY can say Zinedine Zidane ducked the issue when he was asked to explain a mysterious five-minute disappearance by skipper Sergio Ramos during Real Madrid’s 2-1 win at Eibar today.

Los Blancos chief Zidane said: “He s**t himself a little bit. I think Sergio had to take a s**t. He went to the toilet and returned in a minute.”

Third-placed Real were toiling at 1-1 and had already used all three substitutes against their mid-table hosts when Ramos went off in the 73rd minute.

The Spain defender briefly spoke to referee Jose Montero before going down the tunnel.

And he was so long away that a Real official had to explain his absence.

Ramos then returned, though, and carried on as if there had been no problem.

Cristiano Ronaldo went on to complete a match-winning double with a header but Real are still 12 points behind leaders Barcelona.

Ex-Wigan defender Ivan Ramis had nodded Eibar’s temporary equaliser.

RAPH HEADS OFF Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane forced off in Eibar win after nasty clash of heads

Gareth Bale, who was dropped for the 2-1 midweek win at Paris Saint-Germain, delivered a below-par 90 minutes on his recall.

And Real in general were subdued following that impressive 5-2 aggregate success over the big-spending French champions.

Nonetheless, Zidane singled out Ronaldo and first-goal provider Luka Modric, saying: “Cristiano is from another galaxy.

“Luka had a great game and we are happy. He is a fundamental player for us.”

The French World Cup winner also defended his under-fire duo of Spain midfielder Isco and the Welsh raider.

Zidane said: “I thought Isco and Gareth did well, but like the other players they suffered because we had difficulties and we weren’t good with the ball.

“But they fought and they ran a lot. They had character, like their team-mates.”

Manchester United vs Liverpool: Under Sir Alex Ferguson winning was all that mattered and today should be no different

Manchester United vs Liverpool: Under Sir Alex Ferguson winning was all that mattered and today should be no different

LET’S not beat around the bush here, Manchester United v Liverpool is comfortably the biggest in English football.

United fans shouldn’t be thinking about settling for a point at the weekend.

Manchester United v Liverpool is easily the biggest game in English football Manchester United v Liverpool is easily the biggest game in English footballGetty Images - Getty

They should be going into it expecting their side to take all three, which would go a long way to helping them secure Champions League football next season.

I’ve heard people mention the game against Sevilla on Tuesday as the priority, but when I played under Sir Alex Ferguson, he’d have picked a team capable of going out and winning the game against Liverpool and then the next one against the Spaniards.

If I was to turn the clock back to when I played, we didn’t have a big squad, but Sir Alex would make it clear to us that he expected us to win each and every time we stepped out onto the pitch.

It’s the here and now that mattered, and not the next game.

Sir Alex Ferguson would always expect his team to winSir Alex Ferguson would always expect his team to winAction Images - Reuters Paul Parker previews Manchester United's massive clash against LiverpoolPaul Parker previews Manchester United’s massive clash against LiverpoolPA:Empics Sport

Now, no disrespect, but if United were playing someone like West Brom on Saturday then I might understand it, but it’s not, it’s Liverpool, and United can’t be seen to be playing defensively against them.

Another way to look at it is if you can beat Liverpool, the players and fans would get a huge lift going into the Sevilla match.

MONEY SHOT Manchester United will be forced to pay Monaco £9m this weekend if Anthony Martial scores against Liverpool

One thing that certainly helped us was continuity and the little partnerships we had across the pitch.

We had Pallister and Bruce, Keane and Ince, and Cantona and Hughes, and that rarely changed whoever we played and it was never about containing, only winning.

Sure we’d set up with four defenders who could defend well, but we’d also have two central midfielders who could attack and defend, and two wide players who could get at defences, ask questions and create chances as well as posing their own threat in front of goal.

And that’s the United way.

(function(){ var voice = document.createElement('script');voice.type = 'text/javascript'; voice.src = 'https://inconversation.net/widgets.js';var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(voice, s); })();

We definitely weren’t boring or told to go out there and ‘take a point.’ That would have been unacceptable.

The league games against teams like Manchester City, Liverpool and Leeds were the ones we lived for and what we thrived on.

Three points against these teams meant so much and could kick-start another run for you.

I believe United must go into this game on Saturday with a better mind set and approach than what we saw earlier this season against City.

Second shouldn’t be seen as good enough for United or Liverpool, but, it’s the position both teams find themselves in, which is why I think playing for draw won’t sit well with the supporters.

Liverpool have their own threat and three very dangerous forward players who are capable of carving you open.

What might help United is the fact that Liverpool have to win to take back second spot which may, unexpectedly, create room in their half for United’s creative players to exploit.

It might not be a classic despite the hype, but hopefully we see a home win.

Manchester United join race for Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure with Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham also keen

Manchester United join race for Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure with Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham also keen

MANCHESTER UNITED have joined a host of Premier League clubs in the race for Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, according to reports.

The Frenchman has been impressive for the Hornets this season and is currently their top scorer with seven goals in 30 appearances.

Abdoulaye Doucoure is now reportedly being chased by Manchester UnitedGetty

The Mirror report that Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho is keen on Doucoure, 25, as he looks to add two midfielders to his squad in the summer.

Marouane Fellaini is expected to leave the Theatre of Dreams in the next window while Michael Carrick, 37, is set to call and end to his playing career and become part of the coaching staff.

United scouts are said to have watched his performance in the 1-0 home win against West Brom at the weekend.

And his strong performances on Saturday, as well as in other game such as the 4-1 win against Chelsea, have got Mourinho interested.

(function(){ var voice = document.createElement('script');voice.type = 'text/javascript'; voice.src = 'https://inconversation.net/widgets.js';var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(voice, s); })();

But United face competition if they want Doucoure’s signature as Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool are all looking at former Rennes ace.

And he will not come cheap as he still has two years left on his current deal at Vicarage Road.

BUM NOTE Mourinho can’t get a tune out of Sanchez and has a big decision to make for Liverpool

Doucoure — who cost Watford £8m back in 2016 — was recently asked about his future and left himself open for a move.

He said: “We’ll see what the state of play is in the summer and then we can ask questions.”
