Cameroon in discussion with Eriksson over vacant managerial position
Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has emerged as the favourite to take over as Cameroon coach, after the country's football federation confirmed that talks with the Swede took place last week. The Cameroon coaching job became vacant in February when Hugo Broos' contract came to an end, and Alexandre Belinga took over on an interim basis while the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) narrowed down prospective candidates. Earlier this week, Dutch duo Clarence Seedorf and Patrick Kluivert were...

Aberdeen vs Burnley: Kick-off time, TV channel, live stream, and team news for Europa League tie

BURNLEY and Aberdeen are set for a two-legged ‘Battle of Britain’ showdown in the UEFA Europa League.

Sean Dyche’s men fancy their chances of winning this second qualifying round clash, particularly if they can avoid defeat in the first leg at Pittodrie.

The Clarets are in Europe for the first time since 1967 – a 51-year absence – after finishing seventh in the Premier League.

Their last European adventure saw Burnley go out of the Fairs Cup to Eintracht Frankfurt at the quarter-final stage.

The Dons, who famously won the European Cup Winners’ Cup under Sir Alex Ferguson in 1983, are managed by Derek McInnes.

Aberdeen have been runners-up to Celtic for the past four years in the Scottish Premiership and, in each of those seasons, they emerged victorious at this point in the competition.

Given that their big domestic kick-off is a week earlier than Burnley’s, Aberdeen could hold a slight physical edge across the two clashes.

The victors will need to win a further two ties to guarantee a spot in the Europa League group-stage draw on September 20.

No TV option has been taken up by any station for the first leg but the return game on August 2 will be shown on BT Sport’s TV and digital platforms.

But you can follow all the action on SunSport’s live BLOG.

What time does the Aberdeen vs Burnley game kick off?

The action gets underway at Pittodrie at 7.45pm on Thursday, July 26.

Juventus' Daniele Rugani the ultimate protege of Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri

ESPN FC News
Juventus' Daniele Rugani the ultimate protege of Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri
Paolo Di Canio believes Maurizio Sarri must improve his management of world class players, like Eden Hazard, to be successful at Chelsea. Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri says a quick improvement is needed from his side after beating Perth Glory 1-0 in their first pre-season friendly. Maurizio Sarri says the futures of Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard and Willian will be decided when they return to training at the end of July. Three years ago, when Maurizio Sarri had just left Empoli to take charge of Napoli, he placed Daniele Rugani at the top of his transfer wishlist. Sarri believes that trust is extremely important, and working with players he is familiar with, and respects, is crucial. Albanian right-back Elseid Hysaj and subtle midfielder Mirko Valdifiori -- both mightily impressive under Sarri at Empoli -- followed their boss to Stadio San Paolo that summer. The Rugani deal was much more problematic, though, and...

Gareth Bale holds talks with new Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui and is assured starring role this season

Gareth Bale holds talks with new Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui and is assured starring role this season

GARETH BALE has been assured by Real Madrid he will be given a starring role next season, according to reports.

The Welshman has been a target for Manchester United over the last two years as he played second fiddle to Cristiano Ronaldo at the Bernabeu.

But Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus has allowed new boss Julen Lopetegui to give the 29-year-old a chance to be the main man at the club, say the Daily Mail.

Bale made it clear he was unhappy last term, despite scoring 21 goals in all competitions, including his stunning overhead kick in the Champions League final win over Liverpool.

After the final, he said: “I’m disappointed not to start the game.

“I need to be playing week in week out and that hasn’t happened this season for one reason or another.

“I need to sit down in the summer and discuss it with my agent and go from there.”

The former Spurs attacker started just 20 league games and a possible big-money switch to Old Trafford now looks dead in the water with the new assurances from Lopetegui.

United were prepared to significantly improve Bale’s £350,000-a-week salary and offered the Spanish giants the £83.5m it cost to sign him from Spurs in 2013.

The European champions have added Vinicius from Flamengo and Alvaro Odriozola from Real Sociedad.

Chelsea to give Maurizio Sarri his own SMOKING area so new boss can light up at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea to give Maurizio Sarri his own SMOKING area so new boss can light up at Stamford Bridge

CHELSEA are looking for an area within Stamford Bridge where Maurizio Sarri can smoke during match days, according to reports.

The tobacco-loving Italian is famous for his habit of inhaling up to 80 cigarettes a day.

And during the 59-year-old’s time at Napoli, he was famous for smoking fags on the touchline.

But in the UK, smoking was banned in workplaces and enclosed public spaces in 2006, which was extended to football stadiums.

So Chelsea will have to find a specific area or room where Sarri can light up at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues’ first home game of the season comes against Arsenal, who visit Stamford Bridge on August 18 in a 5.30pm kick off.

Sarri has had an interesting career, starting as a banker and working his way through several smaller Italian teams before making his way up the ladder to Napoli.

Last season, his side nearly won the Scudetto, being beaten by only four points by Juventus, despite beating the Old Lady at the Allianz Stadium with four games to go.

RB Leipzig built him a smoking room ahead of their Europa League clash last season, where they built a small room within the changing room.

And Chelsea could do something similar at their West London ground.

Sarri’s Blues face Perth Glory today in their first pre-season friendly since winning the FA Cup under Antonio Conte last season.

And the gaffer’s former boss at Napoli has taken a parting shot at his former employee for trying to poach the Serie A club’s best players, after they signed Jorginho for £57million.

Aurelio De Laurentiis said: “He wanted to take my whole team to England and dismantle it.

“I had to lay down the law with Marina [Granovskaia].

“He wanted Jorginho and I gave him away after talking with Ancelotti, who told me he is expecting a lot from Diawara and wants to play Hamsik deeper.”

Juventus unveil third kit made from ocean plastic set to be worn by Cristiano Ronaldo

It is manufactured completely from the Parley material which is made up solely from plastic recovered from waters across the planet.

They are the latest big European club to do their bit for supporting the environment by wearing the Parley strip.

Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich will all have third kits made out of the material.

Francesca Venturini, Designer at adidas said:” The new Juve third kit has eco-innovation and longevity at its very heart.

“Through our partnership with Parley for the Oceans we’ve been able to create this beautiful jersey made from Ocean Plastic.

“The dark grey shade with yellow accents makes it the perfect jersey to be worn either on pitch or on the streets.”

Juve have entered a new level of worldwide commercial status following the capture of Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

The Serie A club have already seen a huge upturn in shirt sales with Ronaldo’s name on, having splashed out £99million to take the forward to Turin.

And sales of the new third kit are also expected to do better than previously thought, just on the back of the Portugal star wearing it.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina set for £6million move to Argentinian side Boca Juniors

Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina set for £6million move to Argentinian side Boca Juniors

ARSENAL and Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina is set for his second English exit of the summer with a move to Boca Juniors, according to reports.

Gareth Southgate’s side knocked Colombia out of the World Cup – despite their most questionable efforts – and the Gunners now look ready to ship him out to Argentina.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina will be hoping to keep a third consecutive clean sheetEPA

The Mirror reports Unai Emery is ready to accept just £6million for the goalie, despite him having two years left on his contract.

Arsenal have made four summer signings already with German keeper Bernd Leno part of the squad overhaul.

And the hot prospect might be the ideal man to compete with Petr Cech for the Emirate No1 shirt.

After losing to England in a quarter-final penalty shoot-out, Ospina’s agent insisted he had enjoyed a brilliant Russia tournament and revealed he was unhappy at Arsenal.

Lucas Jaramillo said: “David has had an excellent World Cup, it has been very important for him, it is not a lie for anyone to say that he finds himself uncomfortable in Arsenal

“There are several clubs interested in David, but leaving Arsenal is not easy because they’re team that pays well and asks a lot for the player, and we must add that he has a contract for two more years.

“We had already considered the Boca option but it is not easy right now economically for a club like Boca to pay that much for a goalkeeper.

Colombia keeper David Ospina is devastated after losing in a shootoutColombia keeper David Ospina is devastated after losing in a shootoutReuters

“He would like to come to Boca but it is not the time, we are focused on staying in Europe because he is relatively young.”

“David has two more years left on his contract at Arsenal, he will have to go back now, there is a new coach, a new goalkeeper who has the coach’s confidence so this might be the end of the line.

“But if there are no options in Europe Boca is a great choice because they are one of the 10 biggest teams in the world.”

Borussia Dortmund eyeing Wilfried Zaha to replace West Ham target Andriy Yarmolenko

Borussia Dortmund eyeing Wilfried Zaha to replace West Ham target Andriy Yarmolenko

BORUSSIA DORTMUND will use the money from Andriy Yarmolenko’s transfer to West Ham to help fund a move for Wilfried Zaha.

Zaha has been linked with a move away from Crystal Palace and Dortmund will look to swoop for the winger.

SunSport revealed last week that the Ivory Coast international turned down a £125,000-a-week contract at Selhurst Park.

It is understood he is keen to prove himself at a big club again following his difficult stint at Manchester United between 2013 and 2015.

And with Borussia Dortmund set to sell winger Yarmolenko to West Ham for £17.5million this transfer window, Zaha could be a suitable replacement for the German outfit.

Of course, the fee received from the Hammers would not cover the entire cost of Zaha, who Palace have stamped a £70m price tag on.

Dortmund will face competition from Tottenham and Everton, though, who are both thought to be keen on the pacey winger.

Zaha was named Crystal Palace Player of the Year for the third year in a row at the end of last season and would be difficult to replace in South London.

This is despite the fact that Palace are expected to shatter their record transfer sale, which currently stands at £25m following Yannick Bolasie’s move to Everton in 2016.

Roy Hodgson will need to make signings soon with Yohan Cabaye and Bakary Sako already leaving the club this summer as the Eagles will be desperate to avoid a repeat of last season’s Premier League start.
